Cayton Bay

Thursday 17th March ........finished work at 12.30, straight home, pack the car, and pick Martine up at 2pm.....bit of a rush but I manage it, and we're on our way from Donny at about 3pm. Its a wonderfully sunny day and we arrive about 5pm at Cayton village caravan park http://www.caytonvillagecaravanpark.co.uk/ It costs £80 to stay till Monday. We are shown to our pitch which is near to the entrance and a toilet block, its a fully serviced pitch but unfortunately the waste water pipe isn't long enough to reach to the drain but its not such a big problem as the water pipe reaches so that hasn't got be filled every 10 minutes. The pitch its self has a bit of a slope but its a hard standing and the van is soon levelled.everything done I venture out to find the chippy. There is a path signposted towards the back of the site to the village. Its a short walk, I only have to follow my nose and I soon arrive at the chippy. There are two pubs The Blacksmiths Arms & The Star (mental note made for later), there's a post office cum shop, and a little further in the opposite direction another shop selling anything we may need food wise.

Fish & chips consumed we go off to sample the pubs, I noticed earlier that there was a quiz night at The Star, and as we pass The Blacksmiths Arms we notice there are very few people in so we go to the The Star. Its a quite friendly, welcoming place with quite a few people in. There is also free wifi !!! We enter the quiz, but its a disaster. Thickos'.com get about 35/60. The beer was OK though Greenking IPA.

Next morning we put up the awning, in a world record time of 1 1/2 hours knocking about 2 hours off our previous best !!!!
I leave Martine to put down the carpet in the awning and go to explore the site. Its quite big, with a lot of seasonal pitches but they are kept in good order and look no different to the rest, (unlike happy Golden Valley). There's a new part to the site called The Laurels where all the pitches are fully serviced and you get wifi as well.
There's also a small sales pitch. The on site shop sell basics and caravan spares, The kids play area looks good, and the dog walk area is a field which is good cos Jazz can be let off the lead.

We are about 3 miles outside Scarborough where we go to because we still haven't got a hoover for the van and dog hairs are taking over. We find an Argos and get one for £30, and while it does do the job its crap really,oh well you get what you pay for!!!

After tea its off to the beach as its quite a nice evening. While the site info says its a 10 min walk, they are lying, it takes 5 Min's in the car to get as near as you can, then its about a 15 min walk down the cliffs. But its worth the walk, its a lovely wide beach backed by massive cliffs. Jazz loves it, its the first time he's been on the beach since last August but he soon remembers what to do.
The walk back up is quite steep (Martine has a mild heart attack on the way) but we eventually manage it.

Next day (Sat) we go into Scarborough park up on the cliffs and walk right round the bay to the harbour. To say its mid March is unbelievable how many people are there, the beach is packed.
On the way back we catch the cliff railway to save Martine having another heart attack, best 70p we spent all weekend.

Wednesday are the telly at tea time, but neither of the two pubs have Sky, so with this in mind I have had to pay £5/month to get Sky on my phone, so we go to The Star for the free wifi and get settled in the back garden, phone propped up against the ash tray, pint in hand.....what can go wrong?
Just as the match starts Ash rings.....and it cuts off the transmission ....brilliant...takes me ages to get it back on. But its all to no avail as as usual we lose 2-0, things are getting serious now on the Wednesday front.

Sunday we go out for the day to Heartbeat country, and although still sunny its quite cold. We park up only to discover we have forgot the dogs lead !!! But all is not lost as Martine finds one in the Aidensfield village store.

Is it Peggy ........No its Martine

We have a look round Scips' garage and have a pint in the Aidensfield Arms ......Quality.

Monday .........it only takes about 45 mins to get the awning down ....in fact I do that while martine sorts out the inside of the van, and we are ready to leave about 11.30.

A very nice site, a very good weekend (except for Wednesday losing), definatly coming back .......
